New York

About a year and a half ago Curtis won some airline tickets from work and we have been wanting to go to New York. The tickets were going to expire so we took a quick trip to New York the last week in April. The first day we rented a car and went to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Calvary Cemetery to see graves and drove through the Bronx to look at some old family addresses.









The next day we rode the train into the Financial district and went on the ferry out to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. We went an a self guided tour and enjoyed exploring the island and walking throught the gift shop.





Then we got back on the ferry and went out to Ellis Island where we spent about three hours walking through the museum and reading about the Islands history. It is actually three islands that have many buildings including a contagious disease hospital where those that came to the United States with diseases would stay until they got better and were allowed to travel on, were sent back to their own country or died.



This is the kissing pole. Many families were seperated when one would come to the United States and work to earn enough money to send for the rest of the family to join them. They would reunite at this point and greet their family members with hugs and kisses.

While we were in the Financial District we also went to ground zero where they are busy rebuilding four buildings called liberty towers.




On Saturday we met up with my cousin Joseph and his wife Shayna for lunch it was great food and fun to visit with them. Then we walked through central park. The park is beautiful and huge. We took some pictures of a street performer, the seals at the central park zoo, a park and just some landscape it was a beautiful afternoon. We wished that the kids were with us that day because they would have loved the park and everything that was going on.






We also went to the Metropolitan Museaum of Art. That place is huge. It would take days to truly see it all. We only were able to make it through a few of the rooms, but it was amazing and really fun. I loved reading about the history of art from different cultures and countries.





The one piece of art that Curtis wanted to see was this haystack picture that was in the Thomas Crowne Affair. Almost everything we did Curtis related it back to a movie that he had seen. He really wanted a picture of himself with this piece of art because Pierce Brosnan's character would go and look at this picture in the movie.


It was such a fun trip we walked through Times Square, walked through Grand Central Station as we caught connecting buses and subways, and were stopped constantly to be told what a cute baby we had. For a short stint we were able to see alot of sites.






The trip was really fun, but we missed the kids and were happy to come home, especially Gabe who was tired and ready for his own bed.
