Spring Break?

For Spring break we went with the Bergquists' down to Capitol Reef. Last year at this same time when we were down there it was 75 degrees. This year a storm went through Utah. Before we left we were keeping an eye on the storm via the internet and it said that Wednesday, the day we left, was going to be stormy and that Thursday would be overcast, and Friday and Saturday would be beautiful. We figured that would be okay because we would be traveling and setting up camp on Wednesday and then exploring and hiking the rest of the week. Weather men are not to be trusted.

We left Wednesday morning at around 10am and stopped for lunch in Salina at Dennys. The kids were happy with that because they could get breakfast or lunch items.

We arrived and set up camp in the cold and wind, but were hopeful that the next morning would bring better things. The next morning was cold and snowing so we made breakfast and ate in the trailer. Then we decided, after watching the weather and that now they didn't expect the storm to blow out until Friday, that regardless of the weather we were going to go exploring. We decided to go down to escalante and to the Anasazi State Park and indian ruins and to the petrified forest. The ruins were cool and the kids enjoyed playing in the replica, but the thought that the actual ruins left much to be desired. When we were walking back to the replica there were other people walking out and Cole told them that there wasn't much to see and they should just go back. I guess he wasn't really impressed. Than we went down to the petrified forest and hiked up in the snow, but by the time we got to the top of the trail the sun was out and it was still cold, but beautiful.









When we woke up Friday Morning it was snowing yet again so we spent the morning in the trailers. Then we decided that we didn't care if it was snowing and cold we were going to go out and enjoy our vacation, so after lunch we went down to the visitors center and watched a short video and got a map of some of the hikes, by the time we came out the sun was out and it was finally warming up so we decided to go on a hike.





The hike was great we saw the pioneer registry and hiked up to the tanks, a place where water had made holesin the ground that collected water during drain off.



Saturday was beautiful so we tried to make the best of it and went on all of the easy hikes with the kids and saw as many things as we could. Capitol Reef is so beautiful and we had a great time regardless of the weather. All in all spring break was a great and we all enjoyed the week and were a little sad to come home, especially because the weather only got better and better.
